FRIDAY FAVOURITES - Anna Allan; Everyday Life cards...

Hello there.
Today I am sharing a set of three 3x4" cards I have created using the October Cupcake Kit.

My favourite things out of this kit are the PUFFY STICKERS!
Closely followed by the stamp and that speech bubble paper!

I have used all these three things on my cards somewhere.

I have used the Becky Higgins Project Life grid cards as a base for all three cards and then products from this month's Cupcake Kit to decorate them.

CARD ONE

On this card I have cut one of the black doilies in half and have attached it with my tiny attacher to half of the card. I have chosen a photo and adhered that on top. Enter that awesome speech bubble paper! I have cut one of the speech bubbles out of the paper and stapled that in the top corner of the card, writing a sentiment on it. I used the alphas in the kit to read YAY as a title for the card - Yay for it being a glorious sunny day, Yay for being outdoors in it, and YAY for being together to enjoy the day!
For some added decoration I stuck a few of the patterned dots randomly on the card.

CARD TWO

I have pulled out the stamp and the chalk ink from the kit for this one and created the background. I have then grabbed a Studio Calico Colour Theory ink pad in grey and just stamped that as a panel in the middle to house my sentiment.
I have handwritten the 'everyday' myself and then...dum dum da dah...those puffy stickers finished off the sentence very well!! Aren't they cute!?!
Along the bottom I have stuck a strip of the yellow washi tape and an offcut of one of the papers from the kit. The twine was perfect to add that extra little decorative touch in the form of a bow.

CARD THREE

You can tell I can't seem to get enough of that speech bubble paper - I've added a strip of it down the side of this card. It's amazing how far you can stretch a 6x6" piece of paper ;-)
Using the chalk ink from the kit, I have just swiped the other side of the card with it.
Add a strip of the black washi, one of the printed transparent stickers and another puffy sticker along with the photos and words and that's another card DONE!!
.
Now to just slot them into my Project Life album :-)

Until next time...

Anna :-)

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY - Natalie May; Best Friend

Hey there

Today I'm sharing a page I created about one of my closest friends Wendy using the October Main kit

Wendy lives across the road from us and we live in each others pockets ... she is there thru thick and thin, she is my shoulder to cry on, ears when I need to talk,
loves a glass of wine and a little cheese - she is such a great person.

This photo was taken at the All Day Scrap for Seriously Scrapbooking where I work - Wendy & her husband supplied the Photo Booth the we had there on the day
and I took the opportunity while we were setting up to sneak a few pics!

The colours of these papers are just perfect - orange and yellow and colours that
Wendy wears really well and I love turquoise....

I used the black cardstock with a mask, added a little green and orange mist
and then crated a border using strips of pattern paper from the kit!

Love it!
The alphas were not the right colour so I painted them with a little mist to match!

Thanks for stopping by - I hope your day is going well!

MESSY MONDAY - Felicity Wilson: Love

Hello friends!
I am here today to share with a page I created with lots of sprays, wax crayons and water colour pencils.
I love the stamp that came in the kit and started my page with that inspiration. I had no direction at all, other than stamping the image and then I wanted to use my wax crayons to colour a few circles in. I then wanted to created a shadow all the straight line to blend it in a little more.

I then sprayed some Heidi swap colour shine and splatters.
When I added the circles to the background, I used water colour pencil to soften the edges of the circles and to blend with my background.

Somehow I ended with a page that is bright and colourful.

NOT INCLUDED: flowers, gold bow,  butterflies

I hope you have a little experiment with some mediums.

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY - Felicity; Lets dance

I am very excited to sharing my first project as a Design team member. I am having lots and lots of fun playing with cupcake kit.

The colours are nice and bright. I will admit, I was a bit 'stand-offish' at first because I don't tend to use brights a lot. I admire all those creativity people that can pull of brights so easy.
This time I decided to start with to cards.

It was a perfect way for me to jump start the creativity and get a feel for the kit I guess. To see the endless possibilities.

With this card I started with the pinks.

NOT INCLUDED: Gold bow, flowers and frame.

I really wanted to get to a feel for the black in the kit.

I used it subtle in my layering.

NOT INCLUDED: Flower and bow.

I hope I have inspired today.

WORKSPACE WEDNESDAY - Nat May; My Scrap Space

Time for me to share my Scrap Space with you all!

I'm lucky enough to have my own little room - which feels like it's getting smaller by the day - it used to be Jessica's nursery, hence the lemon cornices and the frieze on the wall.

But it does the job and over time Trev & I have changed and added storage to try
and accommodate my supplies!

This is what it looked like back in November 2010 before I was kicked out of the big room ..... Here
And back in December 2011 ..... Here

And today ....

The desk goes from under the window and down the right hand side of the room.

We added the Ikea bookcase and turned it into shelving

The built in wardrobe doors hold my masks - but I'm thinking I'm needing another line of wire soon….

Inside the wardrobe is stuff ... boxes of stuff ... :)

My workspace is easy - I have everything at hand.
I have a couple of magnets to my left that hold my knife, scissors and other bits, hooks to hold my scissors and the drawers have my adhesives in them.

To my right is the computer, my Making Memories caddy gifted by a wonderful scrappy friend, under the shelf is my tub of mediums, gesso and everyday inks.

The drawers in the shelving hold more 'stuff' .... paints, flair, veneers,
tapes, basket of flowers ... stuff like that.

There is the right amount of room under the shelf for four drawers ...
two hold mists and the other two hold punches.

My bookcase is a mess!
Unfinished projects, Project Life I started but lost interest in, gear to take into
work to teach with, just random stuff I cant find a home for.

On the floor is 2 boxes of layouts that need to go into albums - anyone else have this problem?

There is a long shelf that goes the length of the room that hold all
my finished mini albums and a few off the page projects

The shelf underneath it hold my chipboard - this is currently a disorganized mess -
I have zero interest in cleaning it up but that's on the list to do next week.... maybe

My Raskog holds my most used stamps - the boxes next to it are ... current kit I'm using for APOCD, Studio Calico kits unopened, box of Cameo cuts ready to use, new stuff I ordered
that needs a home and a box of scrap cardstock!

So that's my craft space.
It's never this tidy - the floor is always covered in bits of paper and random stuff... I work in here just about everyday ... being a full time scrappy person with teaching classes and running 3 webpages and blogs, design team work and magazine work, it's a functional space that is continually evolving!
It's my space - and I love it!

MESSY MONDAY - Anna Allan; Colour it, Ink it, Stamp it!

Hi there!
Anna here for my FIRST blog post as a new DT member here at A Piece of Cake Designs.
I can't express how thrilled I am to be here!

Today I am sharing my first layout I have created using the awesome Cupcake Kit.
And can I just say - I am always impressed at how everything in the APOCD kits just co-ordinate so well. Raquel has such a keen eye for detail and certainly knows how to put a yummy, user-friendly, no fuss kit together. Just open the box and go for it -- the work is done for you, everything matches and just fits together perfectly. LOVE THAT!

So, as the heading of this post suggests, I have gotten a tad messy with this page with a water-coloured, stamped background as a base for my layout.

For the pink water-colour background, I have used the plastic bag method. Firstly, I applied a layer of gesso down the middle of my page. Once dry, I lightly spray the area with water then paint a zip-loc bag with water colour (pink in this instance) and lay it paint side down onto the damp gesso area of the page. I absolutely adore this method - it's my go to technique when wanting to create water colour effect backgrounds.
When this part dries, I have used the stamp and chalk ink from the kit and randomly stamped it over the page. I have also done it with a grey ink as well. It was then just a matter of layering papers and the washi tape and doilies to create the photo mat.

I loved the speech bubble paper and to bring more attention to them I actually used a blade to cut around half of some of them which then overlapped onto my photo where I added some text documenting the exclamations of my besotted child with the bunny ;-)

For the title, I wanted to create a bit more depth to the words so adhered the required alphas from the kit to one of the patterned papers and cut around them so they each had a border. I love how it turned out!

Thanks for dropping by!
A Happy Monday to you all.

Anna :-)
