I'm back again to show you another layout that I completed using the February Cupcake Kit . I'm a huge fan of patterned papers, and this gorgeous kit is filled with the most beautiful patterns and designs. Lovely to mix and match.
I wanted to mix up all the papers together so decided to use a fun technique you probably all learnt in primary school. Weaving. So simple and produces a fabulous textured background or photo matt.
Here are some simple instructions if you can't quite remember how to start.
- Cut your patterned papers into strips, they do not need to be of uniform width.
- Line up as many strips as you need to create a weaved piece the width you require. I used four pieces. On the BACK of these strips secure them with double sided tape but don't remove the plastic backing on the tape. The tape simply holds the pieces secure while you weave.
- Begin weaving over and under the horizontal strips.
- You can create a perfectly square piece of weaving OR make the ends of both the horizontal (warp) and vertical (weft) at alternating heights to give a more textured look.
Here is my completed layout.
As you can see I didn't need to add much more, there was already lots of colour and texture from the weaved background. Stickers from my kit (which I cut up - I tend to do that!), a little ink also included in the kit, a cute flair and some cotton thread. Super simple. Super effective.
I hope you have a chance to add some weaving to a project soon.
