Still going

Tam here again and I'm still going with the March kit!  So many lovely goodies in there.

This was a quickie page - I fell in love with the grey and white striped paper and wanted it to stand out, so I left the embellishments to a minimum.  A few scraps of patterned paper and ribbon and a splash of mist completed the page.

It's almost time for the April kit - have you used up your March kit yet?  I dare you to complete a quickie page with your kit over the weekend!

Hello!  Tam here with another project from the March A Piece of Cake Designs kit.

You may or may not be aware that I am the lucky mummy of three little boys, so pink scrappy supplies can sometimes send me into a panic!  Luckily, I had an engagement party to go to a couple of weeks back, so I used some of the lovely pinks in the kit to make a lovey-dovey card.

You might spot that I used the doiley as a mask with some white mist on the background of the card.  I love the lacey look it gives.  The dimensional flower stickers were perfect for accents, and I made one of the Elle's Studio banners into a tiny flag with a toothpick to form my sentiment.  Some punched hearts and handcut scallops completed the card.

When I had finished, I placed the card in the middle of the doiley and folded the edges of the doiley around the card to create a lovely lacey envelope.  A little bit of double-sided tape held it all together.

Cards are such a great way of using up bits and pieces of your kit!  Have you made any cards with your kit?  Make sure you share them with us on the APOCD Facebook page!

Inspiration with Sprinkles

Huge Hello Everyone!

I'm back to show you all another layout I created with the yummy March kit
from A piece of Cake Designs :)

I thought after the explosion of pink in my last layout, I would play it down a bit for this layout :)

I couldn't resist using the black wood grain for my background, makes all those other bright colours POP right off the page! YAY!

Locklan honestly has "Laughter like Butterflies" I'm sure you can understand what I mean :)
I really love how these colours have been married together with the black helping to make the layout really grab your attention.

Sort of like Locklan ...always grabbing my attention...lol

I have a few sneaks for you....some other layouts i have been working on.....

Lots of colours bursting out of this March kit!
can't keep it contained :)

March kit recipe layout!

Welcome to A Piece of Cake Designs very first recipe - a step-by-step guide to recreating a layout from the design team.

If you use the kit contents and follow the instructions, you will end up with a layout just like this one:

Of course, you can swap out papers and embellishments to suit your own photos or style, and make changes along the way to create something that is uniquely yours.  Whatever you do, please leave a link here in the comments to your layout, or share it with us on our Facebook page.  We'd love to see it!

1. Start off with a neutral coloured yardstick.  I used the B-side of the Dear Lizzy 'Reindeer Ride' paper which is a lovely vanilla colour.  You could also use the kraft cardstock that came in the kit.

2. Now THIS bit is fun!  You will need to create a hexagonal template.  You might be lucky enough to have a stencil around (would you believe I have one somewhere but I can't find it?!), but if not, use your word processing program to draw a 4cm hexagon.  Print it out, cut it out, and then trace it onto a sturdy piece of card.  Cut THIS out to use as your template.

3. Choose three or four papers from the kit - I used the Pebbles 'Prince Charming', Pebbles 'Sparkling', Crate Paper 'Delivery' and the aqua cardstock.  Use your hexagonal template to trace five or six hexagons on each paper, and then carefully cut them out.

4. This is a good time to put your title in place so you can arrange the hexagons around it.  Using the Basic Grey 'Sugar Rush' alpha stickers, spell your title out in the bottom left corner.

5. OPTIONAL: Add some interest to your title by twirling some twine over the letters and securing with staples.

6. Arrange your hexagons in the bottom right quarter of the page in a random pattern.  Don't get too fussy about things here ;)  Once you're happy with how they are arranged, stick them down.

7. Add a Dear Lizzy dimensional flower sticker to one or two of the hexagons, just for fun :)

8. Arrange your photo(s) above the title, adding a smidge of wash tape.

9. Cut out an Elle's Studio tag and wrap some twine around one end, securing at the back with tape.  Cut a piece of green ribbon a little shorter than the tag and snip the end to match the tag's shape.  Stick these, slightly overlapping, above your title.

10.  Cut another piece of ribbon in the same way and stick it above your photo on the left hand side.

11. Write your journalling above your photo(s) on the left, or in any other space :)  You can add a couple of brads to the space here if you like.

12. OPTIONAL: Splatter some mist in the white space at the top of the layout.

You're done!  Make sure you share your layouts with us by linking up in the comments, or upload a photo to the Facebook page!

March kit inspiration + recipe sneak

Hey, Tam here with my first bit of inspiration from the gorgeous March kit.  I really love how Raquel has chosen people with *completely* different styles for the design team - and hopefully you can be inspired by both of us!

The aqua cardstock in the kit was so lovely and I really wanted to keep this layout simple to highlight the vivid colour.  I added a bit of interest to the background by cutting a chevron pattern from the offcut cardstock and then mounting it on dimensional foam.  Don't you love the effect?

(You can click on the picture to see a larger version)

I can be a bit challenged when it comes to twine, so here I used a tiny bit dipped in glue to make a heart embellishment.  I really love how it turned out - I'll be doing that again!

And the Elle's Studio pennant tags are the perfect little finishing touch along with a cute little exclusive Cherry button!

And while I'm here, how about a little sneaky-peek of the layout I'll be providing the 'recipe' for.  I'll be giving you the low-down on this one so you can use your A Piece of Cake Designs March kit to create a layout just like mine, or even use the instructions as a starting point to create your own unique layout.

Stay tuned to the blog, as Sam will soon have some inspiration to share with you too.

Well our first release is set and ready to go for the sale tomorrow night at

And here is a close up of the kit which will be for sale tomorrow! Hope you like it as much as I do :)

Just a note for those interested in purchasing a kit tomorrow night. Being our first sale and the first time our website cart and inventory check is going to get a work out, I am unsure of how the site will handle the traffic at 8pm. If there are any issues I will be there to try and resolve them at the time of sale. As these kits are limited in number the hope is that the website will continue to update its inventory levels as it is supposed to. Basically, I am just requesting your patience and understanding if there are any issues :)

Can't wait for tomorrow night! Looking forward to sharing what fantastic work our lovely DT have been behind the scenes creating for you also

See you all at the sale, xxx
